Thanks to a crazy conversation with a friend, I decided to write this, a very nonsensical scene of part of the conversation. Haha. It doesn't make any point or any sense but I know that the friend will enjoy it anyway. ENVY IS BACK!

One month after she broke up with her boyfriend, Tim, she saw him walking into Borders, Orchard Road, with the person he left her for, her somewhat (Ex) best (not really the bestest bestest) friend Envy! What was Envy doing in a bookshop; she never read! Even her ‘socialreading’ application on Facebook was empty! She tried to hide herself behind the many book shelves but to not avail; Envy had seen her already. Walking smugly towards her, Envy exclaimed, “If that isn’t Sunnie! Haven’t seen her for ages! Come, darling, let’s go and say ‘Hi’!”

Tim, obviously, did not want to do so but he had little choice in the matter. He was slowly learning the consequences of having Envy as a girlfriend. He really didn’t want to hurt Sunnie anymore. Yes, he left her for her best (not really bestest bestest) friend but that was because he did not love her anymore. (Or, if he will be honest, because she needed constant reassurances. And when Envy was like a breath of fresh air! It was nice to have someone wooing him instead of the other way for once.) But not loving Sunnie anymore didn’t mean that he had to be callous and hurt her further, which was what his girlfriend was doing now.

“Hi Sunnie,” exclaimed Envy patronizingly.

“Um, hi?”

“Fancy meeting you in Borders!” she cried out, as if she was the one who often visited bookstores.

“Yeah, I would think so; I didn’t know you read!”

“You didn’t know?” exclaimed Tim, surprised. “Envy reads a lot; her favourite author is Jeanette Winterson! She’s a brilliant writer, won lots of prizes remember?”

“Yeah sure. Jeanette Winterson!”

Sunnie was sure that the only Jeanette Envy knew was Jeanette Aw, who was a local actress. She suddenly remembered how she mentioned to Envy how brilliant she thought Winterson was. She writes really cool books. It’s about how she copes with being someone different in the world of her religious mother. Her mother made her think that she’s the savior or something for a long time when she’s a kid. Then when she realizes that she likes women, her mother got a whole lot of people to exorcise the devil from her! And Envy had replied, Eeyearh, how boring! What a weird title! And she is a lesbian! And religion! Top of the ‘Envy refuses to read’ list! I will so rather read my TVB Weekly; have Charm on the cover this week!” “You like Winterson too right?” asked Tim, trying to make the situation more pleasant."

“Yeah, I love her first book, ‘Oranges are not the only fruit’! What do you think about it, Envy?”

“I think it’s really cool how she copes with being different… I mean, having a religious mother is no joke, esp when she thinks you are possessed with the devil! Anyway, look at this!” she exclaimed, “the book I wanted – Sophie’s World!”

So that was how she hooked Tim – by acting as if they had the same interests.

“Well, we gotta go, Sunnie. Gotta get the book, and then, darling and I are going for high tea at Esplanade!” said Envy cheerily.

High tea at Esplanade – Tim and Sunnie’s fav haunt. Mental note not to go there ever!

“You know,” said Envy, reluctant to leave before making her point, “are you going for Shane’s wedding on Saturday? Cause I’ll be going and I want to bring darling, but you know, I thought that Shane might not know about… Tim being MY boyfriend… So maybe… I shouldn’t ….”

“ENVY!” exclaimed Tim, “that wasn’t necessary at all!”

“It’s okay; Shane knows. Shane knows how you snatched my boyfriend away from me under my very eyes!” replied Sunnie tersely. She stalked out of Borders miserably, mentally making a note never to come to Borders too. In fact, it seems like there were many places that she cannot go now.
